After 45 league matches, two semis and one thrilling final, England lifted the ICC World Cup 2019 trophy at the Lord’s on Sunday, 14 July.

In the epic summit clash, Eoin Morgan-led England won their country’s maiden World Cup title on the basis of their superior boundary count – 22 fours – to New Zealand's 17, after the match and also the ensuing Super Over ended in a tie.

And with that, over 40 days of non-stop cricketing action – that saw several brilliant performances, heartbreaks, wins and disappointments – came to an end. Here’s a recap of the World Cup via the big records broken and landmarks reached during it.

1. Rohit Sharma & KL Rahul on two occasions rewrote the record for India's highest opening stand in World Cup matches.

2. Jofra Archer's tally of 20 wickets would be the highest taken by an England bowler in a World Cup.

3. Bangladesh made 333-8 against Australia which would be their highest total in ODIs.

4. Rohit Sharma became the first batsman to score 5 hundreds in a single edition of the World Cup; he broke Kumar Sangakkara's record of 4 hundreds.

5. Kane Williamson set a new record for the most runs scored by a New Zealand batsman in an ODI competition; he scored 578 runs in World Cup 2019.

Williamson's aggregate of 578 runs would also be the highest for any captain at the World Cup.

6. Shaheen Afridi became the youngest bowler to take a 5-wicket haul in a World Cup match; he was 19 years and 90 days when he took 6 for 35 against Bangladesh which were also the best figures in ODIs at Lord's.

7. England's 397-6 against Afghanistan would be their highest total in World Cup matches; it would also be the highest total in World Cup 2019.

8. Eoin Morgan hit 17 sixes in England's innings against Afghanistan which is the most any batsman has hit in a World Cup innings. England's innings contained 25 sixes – the most hit in an innings in ODI history.

Morgan's 57-ball hundred in that match would be the fastest hundred scored by an England batsman in the World Cup.

9. Virat Kohli became the first captain to score 5 consecutive half-centuries in the World Cup.

10. Shakib-al-Hasan became the first player to score more than 500 runs and take 10 wickets in one particular edition of the World Cup. He would also go on to become the only player to score more than 1,000 runs and take more than 30 wickets in World Cup matches.

Shakib-al-Hasan's aggregate of 606 runs in World Cup 2019 would be the highest for a Bangladesh player in a World Cup.

11. Avishka Fernando became Sri Lanka's youngest World Cup centurion; he was only 21 years and 87 days old when he scored 104 against West Indies

12. Lasith Malinga became the quickest to take 50 wickets in the World Cup; he reached the milestone in 26 World Cup matches.

13. Afghanistan's Ikram Ali Khil became the youngest player to don the wicketkeeping gloves in the World Cup; he was only 18 years and 252 days when he played his first World Cup match against New Zealand.

14. Carlos Brathwaite scored the fastest century by a West Indies batsmen in World Cup matches; he got to the three-figure mark off 80 balls against New Zealand.

15. Imran Tahir became South Africa's highest wicket-taker in World Cup matches; he ended his World Cup career with 40 wickets.

16. Australia's Nathan Coulter-Nile scored 92 against the West Indies; it would be the highest score by a number eight batsman in World Cup matches.

17. England's Jason Roy and Jonny Bairstow became the first pair to post 4 century partnerships in a single World Cup. Before them, five other pairs had posted 3 century partnerships in a particular World Cup.

Jonny Bairstow's aggregate of 532 runs would be the highest for any player playing in his first World Cup.

19. Mitchell Starc set a new record for the most wickets taken in a World Cup. The Australian pacer took 27 wickets in World Cup 2019, better Glenn McGrath's record of 26 wickets set in the 2007 edition.

20. Joe Root set a new record for the most catches taken by a fielder in a particular World Cup; he pouched 13 catches in World Cup 2019.

21. The 116-run partnership between MS Dhoni and Ravindra Jadeja against New Zealand would be the highest 7th wicket partnership in World Cup matches.

22. New Zealand's Tom Latham equalled the record for the most dismissals by a wicketkeeper at a World Cup.

23. Ben Stokes' 84 not out would become the highest score by an England batsman in a World Cup Final.
