Afghanistan failed to register a win in their current World Cup campaign. They were defeated by West Indies in their last league match of the tournament on Thursday, 4 July.

Afghan skipper Gulbadin Naib was disappointed by his team’s performance in the campaign. “We did not look like an Afghanistan team, playing our natural cricket, how we played in the past two-three years. I didn't see it here. I don't know why.”

Gulbadin said, “We had big names like Mujeeb, Nabi and Rashid, but we can’t depend on one department, in a World Cup campaign you have to be prepared well in every department.”

Mujeeb had poor start in the tournament, but he proved himself in last four or five games. Rashid gave it his all on field but it was his bad luck; missed reviews and bad umpiring decisions were blamed.

He accepted that they made a lot of mistakes in the campaign and that the team needs to learn from it. "Everyone is expecting a lot for Afghanistan cricket,” Gulbadin said.

“We are playing professional cricket and everybody has to give their hundred percent and we need to be fit in every department,” he added.

Gulbadin said that fitness is the biggest issue of his team and that everyone didn’t give their hundred percent: “Our campaign is over now and we have matches lined up where we will get a chance to enhance our game, our skills,”.
