The most number of hundreds in a single season has been scored in the ongoing Indian Premier League. Six centuries were scored in 2008, 2011 and 2012, but in this edition of the IPL, seven centuries have been scored.
Virat Kohli has set the bar really high notching a record four centuries in the season.
This edition has seen many spectacular innings. Here’s a look at the top nine innings of the season.
When T20s had begun, experts had said that a fifty would be a big achievement in this format. But Virat Kohli has raised the bar and scored a spectacular 113 off 50 balls in a 15-over game.
While batting first against Kings XI Punjab in a rain-hit game, Kohli smashed twelve boundaries and eight sixes which helped RCB win by 82 runs.
AB de Villiers along with Virat Kohli completely destroyed the Gujarat Lions bowling attack. De Villiers took centre stage and smashed the ball all over the park.
The South African scored his third IPL hundred, which propelled RCB to a mammoth total of 248/3.
De Villiers smacked ten boundaries and 12 sixes during his brilliant innings of 129* off 52 balls.
Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers recorded the highest partnership (229 runs) in the history of the IPL in the match against Gujarat Lions.
Kohli played the second fiddle in the partnership but still managed to smash his second hundred of the IPL.
The Royal Challengers Bangalore captain hit five fours and eight sixes in his innings of 109 runs (55 balls).
While chasing Royal Challengers Bangalore’s huge total of 191/5, Quinton de Kock held his own for Delhi and ensured that they come out on the winning side.
The South African wicket-keeper smacked 15 boundaries and three sixes in his innings of 108 off 51 balls.
Delhi eventually won by seven wickets.
The chase master led Royal Challengers Bangalore to a seven-wicket win with an unbeaten 108 off 58 balls.
The skipper struck eight boundaries and seven sixes while chasing Pune’s score of 191/6. With help from Shane Watson and KL Rahul, RCB wrapped up the match in 19.3 overs.
Even a century could not help lift the fortunes of the Rising Pune Supergiants as Steve Smith’s hundred against Gujarat Lions went in vain.
While Pune were going through a horrid tournament, Steve Smith tried to make things better with a spectacular innings of 101 off 54 balls. He smashed eight boundaries and five sixes. The Australian captain’s knock propelled Pune to a big score of 195/3.
But Dwayne Smith and company managed to chase down the score and Gujarat won the match by three wickets.
Virat Kohli scored his first hundred of his T20 career against Gujarat Lions but unfortunately it went in vain as Dinesh Karthik and company guided Gujarat to a six-wicket win.
The RCB skipper smacked eleven boundaries and a six in his innings of 100 runs from 88 balls which propelled Bangalore to a score of 180/2.
Eventually, Gujarat won the match by six wickets.
South Africa’s Hashim Amla, who joined the team as a replacement for Shaun Marsh played a maginificent innings of 96 runs from 56 balls against Sunrisers Hyderabad.
Amla, who smacked 14 boundaries and two sixes guided Kings XI Punjab’s score to 179/4.
But it wasn’t good enough as David Warner and company chased down the score with seven wickets in hand, which ended Punjab’s hopes for a play-offs berth.
The Sunrisers Hyderabad captain David Warner played a blistering 92 runs from 50 balls which helped his team post a big total of 194/5 and eventually win the game by 15 runs against Royal Challengers Bangalore.
Warner smashed nine boundaries and four sixes and strung a partnership of 124 runs with Kane Williamson during the course of his innings.
