India’s under-17 football stars faced team USA on Friday in the FIFA U-17 World Cup. With India playing host, the pressure on these young boys in blue couldn’t have been more intense.

Twitter was flooded with hopes and good wishes prior to the match. The 3-0 loss, however, did bring a lull in the excitement. While some criticised the Delhi venue and the game itself, many came forward to extend support and express pride despite the loss.

A Moment of Pride

Tweets of support flooded the internet with people cherishing the moment when the Indian national anthem was played at a FIFA World Cup match for the first time.

Is It a Bird? A Plane?

The match was held at the Jawaharlal Nehru stadium in New Delhi. The sculpture outside the stadium did not miss people’s attention.

Swachh Bharat?

The official Twitter account for the Swachh Bharat campaign posted the following tweet.

However, people on Twitter were quick to point out the ground realities.

A Hair-y Debate

The Indian team members’ hairstyles won the hearts of many but some did criticise the excessive focus on the hair instead of the game.

Great hair but not good enough play?
