Serena Williams was denied a record-tying 24th Grand Slam title as she suffered a 6-3, 7-5 loss against 19-year-old Bianca Andreescu in the women’s singles final of the US Open on early Sunday, 8 September morning,
This is the second year in a row that 37-year-old Williams lost in the final at Flushing Meadows. It is also the fourth time in seven majors since returning to the tour after having a baby, that Serena finished as runner-up. The six-time champion remains stuck on 23 Grand Slam singles titles, one shy of Margaret Court's mark for the most in history.
But despite her loss at the Arthur Ashe Stadium in New York, the internet heaped praise on Serena Williams for her fightback during the game and for her resilience in the tournament.
