Former Indian cricketer Sandeep Patil wrote a heartwarming letter to son Chirag, a day after it was announced that the Marathi actor will be playing his father’s role in a movie based on the 1983 World Cup.
The Kabir Khan directorial stars Ranveer Singh, who plays former Indian skipper Kapil Dev, as well as Punjabi singer-actor Ammy Virk and YouTuber Sahil Khattar.
Right-hand batsman Sandeep Patil, who played for India between 1980 and 1986, also had a short-lived Bollywood career of his own and acted in a movie called ‘Kabhie Ajnabi The’. Chirag has acted in about 11 Marathi and Hindi films.
Here’s the entire text of the letter:
Dear Chirag
There are very few exceptional moments that come in one’s life. This is one such moment. As a father, I have never been more thrilled than when you broke this news to me. I wouldn’t have anyone else play this part other than my own son.
I’m thrilling as well as nervous as you will be portraying me which has probably never happened in the history of cinema. Believe in yourself and your talent, always remember there is no substitute for hard work and no shortcut to victory. If you have self belief, you can weather any storm.
I wish you a long career, and a longer line of achievements.
Your loving father
