Virat Kohli’s wife Anushka Sharma’s presence in what looks like a Team India picture at the Indian High Commission in London sparked off a huge debate online, with the Indian Cricket Board also facing severe backlash.
With reports that families of cricketers have been asked to stay away till the end of the Third Test, Anushka’s presence in the picture got many asking why protocol was being broken only for the skipper and his wife.
In the picture that was posted by the BCCI, the entire squad along with the support staff can be seen standing outside the doors of the High Commission.
“The High Commission of India sent in a special invite to the team and it's families for a get together last evening in London,” is the caption on the picture now, ostensibly indicating that families of all cricketers were invited and no rules were broken for Anushka.
However, on Twitter, where the caption cannot be edited, the team picture has been posted with the line, “Team India members at the High Commission of India in London.”
Why, then, some of the wives and families of cricketers – who are all also in London – chose to give the dinner a miss, is not a question that has found an answer yet.
Shikhar Dhawan, Umesh Yadav, R Ashwin and Cheteshwar Pujara’s wives all enjoyed a dinner together on Tuesday night when the team was visiting the High Commission.
