This year’s Olympics is an unfortunate time for Sports Minister Vijay Goel, whom faux pas seem to follow like a shadow.

Several gaffes ought to have left Goel red-faced by now.

In his latest gaffe, Goel told the media about several athletes – Khel Ratan awardees, Dhyanchand awardees, Dronacharya awardees, Tenzing Norgay awardees and the Rio Olympics “gold medalists”– PV Sindhu and Sakshi Malik who met Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday.

Attempting to casually clarify the blunder, Goel said he actually meant “medalist” and not “gold medalist” but “who knows we might bag a gold medal in the coming years.”

People shouldn’t make an issue out of a slip of tongue, this can happen at times.

But Twitter made the most about Goel’s latest slip.

Goel has previously misspelt Dipa Karmakar’s name on Twitter, and tweeted out Dutee Chand’s picture while he was wishing good luck to Srabani Nanda.

Miffed with Goel’s rude entourage, organisers from Rio Olympics threatened to cancel Goel’s accredition.
