  • US swimmer Katie Ledecky set the world record for the 800m freestyle event at the Rio games on Saturday as she finished at 8 minutes 4.79 seconds.

  • While Ledecky took home her fourth Rio gold medal, Britain’s Jazmin Carlin finished at 8:16.17 to win the silver and Boglarka Kapas had to settle for the bronze as she trailed just .20 seconds behind Carlin.

  • The only previous woman to have won the 200m, 400m and 800m freestyle at the same Games was American Debbie Meyer in 1968.
