Just days after she resigned as Kerala Sports Council President, athlete Anju Bobby George was on Sunday appointed as member of Khelo India, a central government project.
According to reports, Khelo India, a national programme for the development of sports in the country, is based on Gujarat’s model of Khel Mahakumbh under which the schools and colleges from different parts of the country participate in about 27 disciplines.
Anju had resigned from her post in Kerala after differences with Sports Minister EP Jayarajan.
Anju and chief national badminton coach Pullela Gopichand have been appointed members to the seven-member committee.
Speaking to The News Minute over phone, Anju confirmed that she had received the letter from the central government on Sunday.
Asked how she regards the appointment in view of her controversial exit from Kerala State Sports Council recently, she said that the controversy has not affected her passion for her work.
