Sacked BCCI Secretary Ajay Shirke has been accused of ‘sabotaging’ the ongoing England’s tour of India, reported News 18.

Shirke allegedly called English Cricket Board President Giles Clarke to cancel the Test, ODI and T20 series between the two nations as BCCI was in steep trouble with the apex court regarding the Lodha panel recommendations at the time.

Ajay Shirke, however, denied all accusations being put against him.

You used the word sabotage, and it is a very strong word and it makes a very strong headline. I speak to English Cricket Board President Giles Clarke very frequently because he is my friend. My reputation is at stake so when the time comes, I will release a detailed statement

Senior advocate and BCCI counsel Aryama Sundaram too lashed out at the reports.

If you go by the yardstick that Ajay Shirke cannot speak to Giles Clarke just because he is no longer a member of the BCCI, then of course it is a witch-hunt against certain individuals.

BCCI Secretary Ajay Shirke and President Anurag Thakur were removed from their respective posts by the Supreme Court on 2 January after their failure to bring transparency and accountability to the Indian cricket board.

The apex court also decided to initiate contempt proceedings against Anurag Thakur by seeking his response as to why he should not be held liable for obstructing the implementation of the court's directions aimed at reforming BCCI.
