KKR Eliminated, SRH to Face Lions in Second Qualifier

Two time champions Kolkata Knight Riders’ campaign in Indian Premier League 9 ended after going down to Sunrisers Hyderabad by 22 runs in the eliminator on Wednesday.

Famed Hyderabad’s bowling line-up led by Bhuvneshwar Kumar with three wickets, proved too good for the KKR batsmen, who failed to put up a fight to finish at 140/8 in their 20 overs.

Chasing 163, KKR were off an identical start as Hyderabad losing in-form opener Robin Uthappa (11) cheaply before skipper Gautam Gambhir (28) and all-rounder Colin Munroe (16) took the team to 46/1 in the powerplay.

French Open: Murray Takes Long Road, Others Enjoy Quick March

Andy Murray survived a second close shave at the French Open on Wednesday, but his path towards what he hopes will be a maiden title in Paris is getting so circuitous he may soon find himself hacking through trees in the nearby Bois de Boulogne.

While defending champion Stanislas Wawrinka, fifth seed Kei Nishikori, Agnieszka Radwanska, Simona Halep and Garbine Muguruza, eased into the third round on Wednesday, world number two Murray took the long and winding road again.

The Scot spent Monday and Tuesday figuring a way past an unorthodox Czech, 37-year-old Radek Stepanek, extricating himself from two sets down to scrape through in five.

Shooter Heena Misses Out on Final Berth

Heena Sidhu shot well for a 384 out of 400 in the Women’s 10m Air Pistol qualification round but missed out on a final berth by a point on the concluding day of the Shooting (Rifle/Pistol) World Cup on Wednesday.

Heena finished 12th out of 104 shooters in the eventual standings but will be pleased at having shot a high score ahead of the all-important Olympics. The eighth finalist from Serbia, Bobana Velickovic who eventually won the gold, made it through with a score of 385 and had less inner 10s than Heena at Munich’s Olympic Shooting Centre.

Shweta Singh and Nivetha Paramanantham, the other Indians in the event shot scores of 378 and 377 to finish 47th and 52nd respectively.
