Recycled cardboard will be used to make bed frames for athletes at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

According to a BBC report, the mattresses for the beds will be formed of polyethylene materials that will be reused for plastic products after the events.

A total of 18,000 beds will be required for the Olympics, and 8,000 for the Paralympics.

The Olympic torch is made from aluminium waste and the podiums from recycled household and marine plastic waste, while electricity will come from renewable sources as part of the environment friendly drive, the report said.

The medals for the Games, starting from July 24 till August 9, are made from recycled consumer devices.
