Just one day into their tour of Bangladesh and the Indian camp has suffered their biggest casualty - skipper MS Dhoni has picked up a back spasm during a training session on Monday.

This, just days before the team start their campaign against hosts Bangladesh on the 24th of February.

India ODI and T20I captain MS Dhoni has suffered a muscle spasm in the back during a training session today in Dhaka. The All-India Senior Selection Committee has named Parthiv Patel as the back-up wicketkeeper for the upcoming Asia Cup, 2016. He will join the team in Dhaka at the earliest.

Patel Named Back-Up

“Parthiv has been summoned as precautionary measure,” the Indian team’s media manager Nishant Arora added.

The 30-year-old left-handed wicketkeeper-batsman has been active on the domestic circuit, playing for Gujarat. He helped the team win their first-ever Vijay Hazare Trophy earlier this year and also smashed centuries each in Vijay Hazare and Deodhar Trophy tournaments.

Since making his debut at the age of 17, Patel played 20 Tests, 38 One-Day Internationals (ODI) and two Twenty20 Internationals for India. He last wore the Indian jersey during the tri-series in Australia against Sri Lanka in 2012.
