Former Indian cricketer Mohammad Kaif has been appointed as captain of the Chattisgarh state team, which will be making their Ranji Trophy debut in the upcoming season. Widely remembered for his magnificent knock of 87* runs in the 2002 NatWest series final against England, Mohammad Kaif was also instrumental in the 13 test matches and 125 ODI’s he played for India.
Kaif made his Ranji Trophy debut in the 1997/98 season playing for Uttar Pradesh. The right-handed batsman represented his birth state for more than a decade before shifting to Andhra Pradesh in 2014. The 35-year-old has impressive numbers on his side. He has scored 7581 runs with a healthy average of 41.88 so far in first class cricket.
