Gujarat Lions have appointed former India player Mohammad Kaif as the assistant coach for the tenth edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) on Thursday.

Kaif will be working with Brad Hodge, who was appointed as the head coach of the team last year.

The Gujarat Lions made their IPL debut last year. They were one of the two news teams to be introduced in the tournament after Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals were suspended for two years for being involved in spot-fixing.

Kaif led the Chhattisgarh side in the Ranji Trophy this year, where he mentored a young crop of players with coach Sulakshan Kulkarni.

The 36-year-old has played for three teams in the IPL – Kings XI Punjab, Rajasthan Royals and Royal Challengers Bangalore and scored 259 runs in 29 matches.
