Mumbai finished the league stage topping the points table with 18 points from 14 matches while Chennai came second with as many points from same number of matches but an inferior net run-rate.

Both sides had a contrasting end to their league campaign, while Chennai Super Kings were thrashed by Kings XI Punjab, Mumbai Indians beat Kolkata Knight Riders handsomely to dethrone Chennai from the top spot.

Under Rohit Sharma, Mumbai has had a good run at the Chepauk winning two matches while Chennai is yet to open their account. Mumbai also hold head-to-head advantage in the last five matches, winning four games compared to Chennai winning one. As far as this season is concerned, it has been 2-0 in favour of Mumbai, both being one-sided affairs.

While the winner of today’s match will be fast-tracked to the final, the loser will get another opportunity to try their luck in Qualifier 2 against the winner of the Eliminator, which will be played between Delhi Capitals and Sunrisers Hyderabad.
