Shardul Thakur is out off the last ball of the match and Mumbai Indians win by 1 run.
They are now the 2019 IPL Champions and also the league’s most successful franchise with four titles.
Lasith Malinga is bowling the final over and the first two deliveries go for one run each.
5 are needed off 3 and Shane Watson is caught short of his crease. Out on 80.
CSK need 4 off the last 2 balls
Another one caught behind. Jasprit Bumrah is given the 19th over and he delivers the wicket of Dwayne Bravo. The West Indian is out on 15 off 15.
Malinga went for 20 runs and Rohit Sharma elects to go with Krunal Pandya in the 18th over. Shane Watson doesn't waste time making the most of this opportunity.
Three back-to-back sixes from his bat and 20 runs come off the third-last over of the innings.
CSK: 132/4 in 18 overs (18 runs needed from 12)
Shane Watson goes high but it doesn't go the distance. Rahul Chahar finds himself under it but he fumbles this one and Watson is dropped on 56.
CSK: 112/4 in 17 overs (38 needed from 18)
Lasith Malinga takes the heat as Shane Watson’s hit him big in the 16th over. Boundaries and sixes fly off his bat as the Aussie scores his second half-century in as many matches.
20 runs from the over.
CSK: 108/4 in 16 overs (42 needed off 4 overs)
McClenaghan concedes just 3 runs in the 15th over and clearly CSK’s charge has been derailed after the skipper’s wicket.
CSK: 88/4 in 15 overs (Need 62 off 30 balls)
MS Dhoni is caught trying to slip in a second after an overthrow but Ishan Kishan’s direct throw dislodges the bails. Some replays show him to be out but there’s also an angle that leaves some doubt. It’s over to Nigel Llong and the third umpire decides to give it out.
The CSK skipper is walking back on 2.
Is this the match for Mumbai?
CSK: 82/4 in 13 overs
Jasprit Bumrah has gotten Mumbai another big breakthrough. One over after Raina’s wicket, Ambati Rayudu is caught behind by Quintin de Kock.
He’s out on 1.
CSK: 73/3 in 10.3 overs
He’s caught in front of the stumps by Rahul Chahar but Raina decides to go for a referral. The ball was hitting him high on the right pad but its just low enough to hit the top of the bails.
Out on 8.
Batting on 33, Shane Watson hits one high and finds Lasith Malinga in the field. The spinner though can’t position himself right to latch onto the delivery and his outstretched hands miss it easily.
CSK: 70/1 in 9 overs (80 runs needed off 11 overs)
McClenaghan thinks he has his man, as does the umpire when Suresh Raina is given caught-behind. He asks for a referral and videos show the ball didn't make contact with anything on it’s way to Quentin de Kock.
CSK retain the referral and get to have Raina stay back at the crease.
CSK: 57/1 in 7 overs
Shane Watson hits some big shots in the 6th over and Lasith Malinga is left watching as he concedes 15 runs in the 6th over of the match.
CSK: 53/1 in 6 overs (Need 97 off 14 overs)
Mumbai have their breakthrough. Faf du Plessis reaches for the ball but it beats his bat and reaches Quinton de Kock’s waiting gloves at the back. The keeper picks off his bails and that’s the first wicket.
Faf out on 26. Suresh Raina is walking in.
CSK: 33/1 in 4 overs
It’s all happening out in the middle in Hyderabad.
First Shane Watson just about survives a run out chance and in the very next delivery, Faf du Plessis could’ve been in danger if the ball had hit the wicket. It doesn't though and there’s no fielder behind the wicket and the ball goes onto cross the boundary line. 5 runs off the ball.
CSK: 19/0 in 3 overs
Mitchell McClenaghan is handed the ball and as always, Shane Watson and Faf du Plessis open the innings for CSK. The opening pair scored a big chunk of the team’s runs in the second Qualifier against Delhi and Dhoni will be looking for them to put up a big stand. Remember, Shane Watson scored a century in last year’s IPL final.
CSK: 7/0 in 1 over
A boundary by Pollard on the final ball of the innings and Mumbai Indians have 149 on the board.
Enough?
MS Dhoni handed the ball to Dwayne Bravo in the final over and the West Indian has delivered. Just 9 runs off the over.
Not the best fielding side this IPL (by a mile) but CSK’s fielders will sign off with a massive run out in the final over of Mumbai’s innings. Pollard hits one down the wicket, Faf collects it in super-quick time and Bravo is right next to the wicket and takes off the bails to pick Mumbai’s 8th wicket
One delivery after hitting Chahar for a boundary, Hardik Pandya is walking back to the hut after being caught lbw.
This ends the 39-run stand between Pandya and Pollard.
New man in, Rahul Chahar, lasts just 2 balls as he falls for a duck in the same over.
4 runs off it.
MI: 140/7 in 19 overs
Hardik Pandya gets a lifeline with Suresh Raina dropping him on 5. The batsmen take a run in the meantime and Pollard faces the next delivery… which goes for a maximum again.
Doesnt get any better for CSK returns to the crease and ‘helicoters’ his way to a six himself.
16 runs off the over.
MI: 136/5 in 18 overs
Imran Tahir mostly managed to keep it tight but the one Pollard maximum took Mumbai’s revenue from the 17th over to 10 runs.
MI: 120/5 in 17 overs
Imran Tahir has his second wicket of the match. Mumbai’s second-highest scorer today, Ishan Kishan, goes for a big one but it’s completely mistimed and Suresh Raina is waiting to pouch this one.
Kishan out on 23. Hardik Pandya comes into join Kieron Pollard.
MI: 101/5 in 14.4 overs
Just 7 balls at the crease and Krunal Pandya has fallen victim to Shardul Thakur’s solo effort.
A short ball to the Mumbai all-rounder and as it goes high, Thakur makes a run for it. There’s a little scare with the ball bouncing off his hands but he catches it safely to become Mumbai’s fourth wicket.
MI: 90/4 in 13 overs
... and you know what that means.
Imran Tahir has ended Suryakumar Yadav and Ishan Kishan’s 37-run partnership. His delivery catches an edge off Yadav’s bat and goes straight into the stumps. Castled!
MI 85/3 in 12 overs
Ishan Kishan hits two boundaries off Dwayne Bravo as the 10th over goes for 10 runs, Mumbai’s most lucrative in the last 5 overs.
MI: 70/2 in 10 overs
They were 37/0 in just 4 overs with Rohit Sharma and Quinton de Kock going big but with both openers now back in the hut, the last 2 overs have gone for 5 runs and 3 runs.
MI: 53/2 in 8 overs
3 deliveries after de Kock walked back into the pavilion, his Mumbai skipper has edged one to Dhoni at the back. Deepak Chahar with the wicket. Rohit out on 15.
MI: 45/2 in 5.2 overs
Shardul Thakur went for his share of runs but he’s delivered for his skipper. One delivery after being hit for a six, he gets Quintin de Kock’s wicket. MS Dhoni with the catch.
De Kock out on 29. Suryakumar Yadav is the next man in
MI: 45/1 in 4.5 overs
Deepak Chahar returns for a second over and Quinton de Kock hits him around the park. 3 sixes off the South African’s bat as 20 runs come off the 3rd over.
MI: 30/0 after 3 overs
Intent shown? The Mumbai Indians skipper has smashed the 11th ball of the match right into the stands. Shardul Thakur was the bowler and the ball itself cannot be traced. 8 runs off the over
MI: 10/0 in 1.5 overs
Deepak Chahar may frustrate his skipper (on more than one occasion) but he’s once again the player MS Dhoni has turned to to open the bowling.
Rohit Sharma and Quinton de Kock are opening for Mumbai and just 2 runs have been conceded in the first over.
MI: 2/0 in 1 over

MS Dhoni has called it wrong and it’s the Mumbai Indians who have won the toss of this IPL 2019 final. Rohit Sharma elects to bat first meaning MS Dhoni’s CSK will be chasing tonight. Both teams are playing for a fourth IPL title.
While MS Dhoni-led CSK are unchanged, Mumbai have made one change for the summit clash – Mitchell McClenaghan has come in for Jayant Yadav. ‘We looked into the conditions and decided to bring in a fast bowler so Mitchell has come in,’ says the MI skipper about his squad.
Both teams – Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians – have arrived at the stadium and are now warming up before the big finale.
Just 15 minutes before the coin is flipped for the last time this IPL season. Stay tuned!
While CSK and MI have both won the IPL title three times each, they have also met in the league’s summit clash thrice before – with Mumbai winning two of those finals.
In the ongoing season, Mumbai have defeated CSK thrice in as many matches – a 37-run win and a 46-run win in two league stage matches, and a 6-wicket in the first Qualifier on 7 May.
CSK have won titles in consecutive years (2010, 2011 and 2018) while MI have won it in alternate years (2013, 2015, 2017).
It’s almost time! Just a few hours from now, the winner of the 12th edition of the Indian Premier League will be decided in Hyderabad, with the Chennai Super Kings and the Mumbai Indians clashing in the final.
Defending champions CSK are now just a win away from retaining their title, while Mumbai are looking to clinch their fourth title as well. Both CSK and MI are the joint-most successful teams in the history of the league, having won the title three times each.
Toss takes place at 7 pm IST, and play will begin at 7:30 pm. Stay tuned for all the latest updates from the season finale of the 2019 edition of the IPL.
