Chennai Super Kings registered their fourth win of the season, defeating Kings XI Punjab by 22 runs in their fifth IPL 2019 tie on Saturday, 6 April. With Punjab needing 39 from two overs, CSK skipper MS Dhoni handed the ball over to Deepak Chahar.
Chahar had a dreadful start to his over. He bowled two back to back no-balls. While the free hit off his first no-ball went for a boundary, his second no-ball produced two in the free-hit.
An otherwise cool and calm skipper, MS Dhoni was visibly livid with Chahar. Later while talking to the media, Chahar spoke about his feelings while he was bowling the penultimate over of the game.
Chahal also said Dhoni complimented him after the match in the CSK dressing room.
"Dhoni bhai also came up to me. He smiled and hugged me. He said 'well done'. I know I bowled two bad deliveries, but I made an immediate comeback. He (Dhoni) also encouraged me and asked me to do well in the tournament. I was extremely happy that I contributed in my team's victory.”
Chahar is another one of MS Dhoni’s discoveries. This is his second season with Chennai after he played under his (MS Dhoni’s) captaincy at Rising Pune Supergiants in 2016 and 2017.
Chennai after their win against Kings XI Punjab will take on Kolkata Knight Riders on Tuesday, 9 April at Chepauk.
