Kings XI Punjab’s Chris Gayle became the first-ever batsman to smashed a whopping 300 sixes in the history of Indian Premier League in Saturday, 30 March’s match against Mumbai Indians.

Chasing 177 for victory against Kings XI Punjab, Gayle hit Mumbai Indian’s Mitchel McClaneghan for consecutive sixes in the third over. He also hit Hardik Pandya for back-to-back maximums in the seventh over before falling to Krunal for 40 (off 24 balls).

The landmark is also special as there is no other cricketer who has even crossed the 200 mark.

Following Gayle in the list of most sixes by a batsman in the league are, AB de Villiers with 192 sixes, CSK’s Mahendra Singh Dhoni (187) and Suresh Raina (186) and Mumbai Indians’ Rohit Sharma (185).

Twitter too celebrated the milestone:

Earlier Punjab won the toss and elected to field first. The might Mumbai batting lineup headed by skipper Rohit Sharma scored fast and quick. Rohit scored 32, while his opening partner Quinto de Kock scored 60 off 39 balls.

Yuvraj was looking good till he was dismissed for 18 off 11 balls by Murugan Ashwin. That started a Kings comeback in the match as Mumbai lost quick wickets in the middle -overs. Hardik Pandya yet again played a cameo to help Mumbai post 176/7 after their 20. Pandya scored 31 off 19 balls which included 3 fours and 1 six.

For Punjab, Mohammed Shami, Murugan Ashwin and Hardus Viljoen took 2 wickets each.
