India Shines at Special Olympics Winter Games, Wins 73 Medals

India participates in the mega event under ‘Bharat’ and won 7 gold, 10 silver and 26 bronze medals.

Bringing more sporting glory to the nation, Bharat (India participates in the mega event under this name) bagged a total of 73 medals at the Special Olympics Winter Games, which began on 19 March.

Competing against 2700 athletes from 107 countries, the Indian athletes won 37 gold, 10 silver and 26 bronze medals.

A total of 89 athletes represented India in Alpine skiing, snow boarding, snow shoeing, figure skating, speed skating, floor hockey, floor ball (and unified floor ball), at the mega event hosted by Austria.

Bharat reigned supreme in floor hockey (male), floorball and unified floorball. They won a total of thirty medals – the highest in a single day. The women’s team too bagged a total of 16 bronze medals.

In Alpine skiing, India won 10 medals including three gold, three silver and four bronze medals. India won eight medals in snowboarding, five in snow shoeing and four in speed and figure skating.
