Australian fast bowler Mitchell Johnson has decided to hang up his boots from international cricket after the ongoing Test series against New Zealand.
The 34-year-old bowled Australia to a 5-0 Ashes series victory in 2013-14 and the 2015 World Cup win among many others.
The Quint takes a look at his top six spells during his international career.
This horrific spell from Mitchell Johnson sealed England’s fate in the 2013-14 Ashes series in Australia.
The fast bowler blasted the English batting order which helped the Baggy Greens bundle out England for 172 in the first innings and eventually win the Test match by 218 runs.
With this win, Australia had gone 2-0 up in the series.
After being dropped for the second Test, Johnson fired all cylinders in the third Test, when he was called back in the team.
The Townsville lad acquired some confidence after he scored 62 in the first innings and then carried on the intensity into his bowling performance.
He ripped through the top order which had the likes of Alastair Cook and Kevin Pietersen and handed his team a 267-run victory.
This particular bowling effort might be the best ever for a losing cause. Johnson in his favourite hunting ground – Perth – found himself in the wickets tally yet again.
This time against the Proteas. The fast bowler picked up key wickets of Jacques Kallis and AB de Villiers en route his eight-wicket haul.
But, even after handing a 94-run lead to his team, the South Africans were too good in the second innings and went on to win the Test.
Mitchell Johnson bowled Australia to an away series victory against their rivals with this superb spell. After New Zealand were set a target of 419 runs, Johnson ensured that the Black Caps don’t even get near it.
The Townsville lad breezed past the top order which handed Australia a 2-0 series victory.
Johnson got Australia off to a blistering start in the 5-match one-day series against Sri Lanka in 2011.
After Sri Lanka chose to bat, Johnson picked up big wickets of Kumar Sangakkara, Mahela Jayawardene and Angelo Mathews in quick time to bundle out the Islanders for a mere 191.
India was very lucky to come out of a corner after rain came and saved them in this DLF Cup match. While chasing Australia’s 244, Mitchell Johnson rattled the Indian top order and reduced them to 35/5.
Johnson picked up the likes of Rahul Dravid, Sachin Tendulkar and Yuvraj Singh.
The rains were too kind to India and therefore, eventually the match had no result.
