Cricket fans across the world were left in shock when reports of former cricket Arun Lal battling with jaw cancer surfaced in the media.

According to The Hindu, the cricketer turned commentator is currently in a hospital in Kolkata and has undergone a 14-hour long surgery.

When the cricketing world was busy with Asia Cup, ICC World T20 and IPL, Arun Lal had been silently away from the spotlight, getting treated. The 60-year-old commentator underwent a jaw replacement.

It’s a rare and dangerous cancer. The symptoms were detected in time (in January) before I went through a rigorous treatment. Thank God I have been able to hold my place.

Many cricketers called Lal to ask about his condition, but the most prominent among them was Yuvraj Singh.

I know what it feels like because I have been through this. It’s nice if you can share someone’s pain and help him overcome it. I always try to understand the mindset of the patient because it mentally defeats you.
