Germany is now back in the race after breaking the deadlock with a stunning 2-1 win against Sweden in Saturday’s match, 23 June.
The spectacular stoppage time stunner was scored by none other than Real Madrid star Toni Kroos, who has proved his worth as a prominent midfielder of the German squad after replacing Bastian Schweinsteiger, who drove Germany to victory in the 2014 World Cup.
The video shows how 30 seconds into stoppage time, the Germans got a foul just to the left of the Sweden box. Kroos stepped up and tapped it to Marco Reus to find the far post of the net.
The game appeared to favour the Sweden side with a 1-0 lead after an error by Kroos led to Sweden’s counter in the first half of the match. Germany could’ve been eliminated from the World Cup after two matches, but the Germans tied it up after Marco Reus equalised in the 48th minute.
The sensational last-minute winner from Toni Kroos got Germany on much safer ground to revive its position in the World Cup.
Toni Kroos is a world-class midfielder who plays with symmetry and balance. His vision and precision on the field have benefitted even the Spanish giants, Real Madrid, who have won numerous titles in the past.
Its last match against Mexico was a major setback and pressure was mounting on Germany to prove its mettle as a four-time World Cup winner. Germany ought to get back on track with strength and determination as this World Cup seems to weigh heavily on them.
Germany has squared with Sweden with 3 points each and now advances to the knockout stage where it will face South Korea in its final match. Meanwhile, Sweden will face Mexico, which now stands in first place in the group.
