Manchester United Sack Manager Jose Mourinho

Manchester United on Tuesday, 18 December, has announced that manager Jose Mourinho has left the club.

Manchester United have sacked manager Jose Mourinho with immediate effect following their Sunday’s defeat against Liverpool. United lost 3-1 to Liverpool and were left with 19 points off the top of the Premier League after 17 games.

The decision was announced on Tuesday, 18 December.

United will now appoint a caretaker until the end of the season and a thorough and extensive process will be followed to appoint Mourinho’s permanent successor in place for next season.

The club issued a statement on Tuesday which stated: “Manchester United announces that manager Jose Mourinho has left the club with immediate effect.

The club would like to thank Jose for his work during his time at Manchester United and to wish him success in the future. A new caretaker manager will be appointed until the end of the current season, while the club conducts a thorough recruitment process for a new, full-time manager.

In his two full seasons at Old Trafford, Mourinho won the Europa League and League Cup (2016-17) before finishing second in the Premier League last season and reaching the FA Cup final.
