India’s gymnastics prodigy Dipa Karmakar sold the BMW that was given by Sachin Tendulkar after the Rio Olympics, because the roads in her town, Agartala, are narrow and potholed. Agartala also doesn’t have a service centre for BMW cars.
Karmakar bought a brand new Hyundai Elantra, from the Rs 25 lakh she received after selling her BMW.
The 23-year-old became an overnight sensation when she finished fourth in the women’s vault finals at the Rio Games, earlier this year.
Sachin Tendulkar, BMW’s brand ambassador, had handed over BMWs to the Indian Olympic medal winners – shuttler PV Sindhu and wrestler Sakshi Malik.
Sindhu’s coach P Gopichand was also given a BMW.
