The IPL 2020 trading window closes on November 14. Many teams have used this trading window to bolster their squads as well as get rid of massive contracts ahead of the IPL Auction that takes place in Kolkata on 19 December.
IPL 2019’s trading window saw the likes of Shikhar Dhawan switch teams, and this year’s window too has seen it’s fair share of big names make switches with Ashwin and Rahane both finding new franchises.
One of the moves that had been rumoured for a long time finally happened on November 7 as Ashwin was sent to Delhi Capitals in exchange for Jagadeesha Suchith.
Ashwin will maintain his INR 7.6 crore salary, while Karnataka spinner Suchith will have the base salary of INR 20 lakh.
Suchith was signed as a replacement for the injured Harshal Patel who played one game in the 2019 IPL season.
Ashwin is one of the most decorated players in the IPL due to his seven-year stint with the Chennai Super Kings. He was captaining Punjab for the last two seasons but reports suggest the move to Delhi was one he was keen on as well.
Mayank Makrande was one of the earliest trades to go through after the close of the 2019 IPL season with Mumbai Indians sending him to the Delhi Capitals and getting Sherfane Rutherford in his place.
His, however, seems to be the shortest stint as well since the Delhi franchise have traded him with Rajasthan Royals in the Ajinkya Rahane deal.
Tewatia will return to Royals after beginning his IPL career with them in 2014, when he was bought for Rs 10 lakhs. He also played for them in 2015 before moving to Kings XI Punjab in 2017 and then settling with Delhi Capitals in 2018 and 2019.
Sherfane Rutherford was bought by the Delhi Capitals for INR 2 crore. He played seven games in his debut IPL season, but didn’t make much of an impact in his appearances. The Guyanese all-rounder will hope that he gets another chance in a set-up which is known for promoting young players through their ranks.
On the last day of the window, Rajasthan Royals traded their most-capped player Ajinkya Rahane to Delhi Capitals in exchange of leg-spinner Mayank Markande and bowling all-rounder Rahul Tewatia.
Rahane, who captained Royals in 24 of his 100 IPL games between 2011 and 2019, was also their top run-getter having scored 2810 runs at an average of 34.26 and strike rate of 122.65.
The 31-year-old, who has a price tag of Rs 4 crore, last played a T20 for India in August 2016 and an ODI in February 2018.
Tewatia will return to Royals after beginning his IPL career with them in 2014, when he was bought for Rs 10 lakhs. He also played for them in 2015 before moving to Kings XI Punjab in 2017 and then settling with Delhi Capitals in 2018 and 2019.
Left-arm fast bowler Trent Boult will play for Mumbai Indians in 2020 after being traded by Delhi Capitals. His salary is INR 2.2 crore.
The New Zealand bowler made his IPL debut in 2014 and played for DC in the 2018 and 2019 season. He has 38 IPL wickets from 33 games.
Boult was heavily rumoured to go to Punjab in the Ashwin trade, but was kept because of his reluctance to play for Punjab. Suchith was sent to Punjab instead and it looks like Boult got his preferred destination in reigning champions Mumbai.
Fast bowler Ankit Rajpoot got traded by Kings XI Punjab to the Rajasthan Royals. Rajpoot has played 23 IPL matches since being signed by Punjab in 2018, and has 22 wickets. He is also the only uncapped player to have recorded a five-wicket haul in the IPL.
Rajpoot is a smart pick by Rajasthan. He was signed for INR 3 crore, which makes him a little expensive. However, it is better for Rajasthan to retain him rather than risk losing him in the auction.
All-rounder K Gowtham was traded by Rajasthan Royals and will now play for Kings XI Punjab in IPL 2020.
Gowtham was bought for INR 6.2 crore at the 2018 auction played 15 games in 2018 and seven matches in 2019. Gowtham was likely on the block to be released by Rajasthan, and may just get released by Punjab before the auction.
Dhawal Kulkarni is one of the few players that have been playing in the IPL since it’s inaugural season in 2008. He was sent to the team that signed him in 2008, Mumbai in a trade with Rajasthan.
Kulkarni is a good veteran addition who is worth INR 75 lakh. He picked up 6 wickets in 10 games for Rajasthan last season. His best season was in 2016, when he picked up 18 wickets in just 14 games.
