India vs New Zealand 4th ODI: Shubman Gill Debuts For Team India

Shubman made his way into the side after KL Rahul and Hardik Pandya were sent back due the Koffee With Karan row.

Under-19 star batsman Shubman Gill made his debut for the senior team on Thursday against New Zealand in the fourth ODI in Hamilton. He becomes the 227th player to represent India in ODIs.

Shubman made his way into the side after KL Rahul and Hardik Pandya were sent back due the Koffee With Karan controversy. He replaced captain Virat Kohli in the playing XI, who was rested for the last two ODIs and the upcoming T20I series, starting February 6.

Rohit Sharma, is leading the side in the absence of Kohli, lost the toss as New Zealand opted to field. India have taken an unassailable lead of 3-0 in the five-match series.

Apart from Shubman, seamer Khaleel Ahmed was also included in the playing XI in the place of Mohammed Shami.

Wicketkeeper MS Dhoni continues to nurse his injury and misses the fourth ODI. Dhoni was spotted training in Hamilton on Wednesday but the team management has opted for a cautious approach and wants him to completely recover from the injury ahead of the World Cup.

Dinesh Karthik will continue the wicket-keeping duties in Dhoni's absence. Shubman Gill comes into the XI as a top-order batsman and will bat at number three in place of skipper Kohli.
