After India’s semi-final exit from the World Cup, India’s next assignment is the upcoming tour to West Indies. The month-long tour starting from 3 August starts with a three-match T20I series.
Both teams have played 11 T20Is till date with India winning 5 of them, West Indies winning 5 and one match ending in no-result. Out of India’s 5 wins, only one has been on Windies soil.
With the T20I series starting from 3 August, here is a look at the top performances by Indian batsman on the Caribbean shores.
In the first T20I of India's 2016 tour to West Indies, Evin Lewis's 49-ball 100 powered Windies to a mammoth total of 245/6. Lewis got support from Johnson Charles (79), Andre Russell and Kieron Pollard, who played crucial cameos.
When it was India's turn to chase down the total of 246, Rahul who was still new to international cricket, played one of the best T20I knocks ever. He scored 110 not out from just 51 balls hitting 12 fours and as many as five sixes. Despite Rohit Sharma's 62 and skipper MS Dhoni's quickfire 43, India fell short of the target by 2 runs ending on 244/4 after 20 overs.
In the same match in which Rahul scored his maiden T20I ton, Rohit scored a defiant 62. He hit four fours and as many sixes in his knock, to give India the best possible while chasing a mammoth total. However, despite his best efforts, India fell short of the target by 2 runs.
Former Indian skipper MS Dhoni scored a crucial 43 in the same match in which Rahul went onto score a memorable ton. He scored 43 off 25 balls which in the context of the game was a crucial contribution. Known to finish games for India, he almost won the match.
Badrinath played just one T20I for India and made a telling contribution with the bat.In the one-off T20I at Port of Spain in 2011, his 45 helped India reach 159/6 batting first.
The Indian bowlers led by Harbhajan Singh then ensured that the Windies do not get to the target as they restricted them to 143/5 in their 20 overs. Courtesy his efforts, India won the game by 16 runs.
Badrinath was also declared the Player of the Match for his effort with the bat.
