Mushfiqur Rahim, the most experienced batsman in the Bangladeshi batting line-up, showed great resistance against in-form Indian pace trio to help Bangladesh survive another day.

At Stumps on Day 2, Bangladesh were 152/6, still trailing by 89 runs. Rahim was still batting on 59 not out, while Umesh Yadav dismissed concussion substitute Taijul Islam for 11 on the last delivery of the day. Mahmudullah was retired hurt on 39.

For India, Ishant Sharma was at it again. The pacer struck twice in his first two overs and once after Tea during Bangladesh second innings to reduce the visitors to 13/4 on Day 2 of the landmark Pink Ball Test at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Saturday, 23 November.

First, he dismissed Shadman Islam for a duck. In his next over, he also sent skipper Mominul Haque back for a nought. His third wicket was Imrul Kayes (5), who after some resistance gave it away. In between, Umesh Yadav picked up the wicket of Mohammad Mithun (6) right after Tea.

Earlier in the day, skipper Virat Kohli completed his 27th Test century before India declared their first innings at 347/9

In the process he became the first Indian batsman to score a ton in a Day-Night Test, as India led Bangladesh by 241 runs.

It took a stunner from Taijul Islam at the boundary off Ebadat Hossein to send Kohli back for 136 off 194 balls. Ashwin (9), Umesh (0) and Ishant (0) were next to go in the span of 4 overs to reduce India to 331/9.

India lost Ravindra Jadeja (12) immediately after Lunch. The all-rounder found his stumps dismantled by Abu Jayed on the second delivery after the break.

Kohli reached the landmark with a double off spinner Taijul Islam in the 68th over. He scored his hundred off 159 balls, which included 12 fours.

On Friday, the Indian skipper had become the fastest batsmen to score 5,000 runs as captain. Kohli took 86 innings to get to the milestone, surpassing Ponting who took 97 innings to get there.

Ajinkya Rahane also brought up his 22nd half-century on the second day, before departing.

Rahane was looking in a very good touch while batting as he scored 51 off 69 with seven boundaries to his name. He continued his good run that started in the West Indies this year. This was his seventh fifty-plus score since the start of the World Test Championship.

But just when all things were looking good for the hosts, Rahane handed an easy catch to Ebadat Hossain, ending a 99 runs stand between him and Kohli.

The start of Day 2 saw World chess champion Magnus Carlsen and five-time World champion Viswanathan Anand ring the Eden bell.

Meanwhile, India had it all in control as they dominated the first day of their maiden day-night Test against Bangladesh.

Bangladesh won the toss and elected to bat first on a seamer friendly wicket. What followed was a fast bowling spectacle by the Indian pace attack.

Ishant grabbed his first five-wicket haul on Indian soil after a good 12 years, finishing with 5 for 22 in 12 overs.

Umesh Yadav continued his good form and took 3 for 29 in 7 overs while Mohammed Shami was on point with his deadly cutters and bagged 2 for 36 in 10.3 overs.

Having lost both the openers early on in the innings, Pujara and Kohli took on the responsibility to build a good partnership for India. Both of them stitched a crucial 94 run-partnership for the third wicket. Pujara scored his 24th Test fifty but soon fell on 55, but the Indian skipper continued with his sublime form to take India forward.

Kohli brought up his 23rd fifty in the longer format against Bangladesh in the 40th over and is looking good on 89.
