With new co-owners on board, Indian Premier League’s Delhi Daredevils have now been renamed Delhi Capitals.
The Delhi franchisee of IPL, unveiled its new identity on Tuesday at an event in New Delhi, which includes a new name, new crest, new colors and a totally new look for the upcoming season of the premier T20 tournament.
After failing to win the title last season, the GMR-owned franchise sold 50 % of their stakes to JSW Sports, who have come on board as the new co-owners.
Delhi Capitals will compete in the twelfth season of the IPL under the leadership team of Head Coach Ricky Ponting, Assistant Coach Mohammad Kaif, Bowling Coach James Hopes.
“I have been through a lot of ups and downs in my time as a cricketer, and have realised how important it is to sometimes take a step back and start afresh,” said Ricky Ponting in a video message.
Delhi Capitals’ logo sports - the Parliament in the background. At the logo’s core, is a ferocious tiger. Meanwhile, in terms of colour, the franchisee has stuck to their old combination of red and blue.
At the playing front, the team from Delhi made some off-season changes with the management deciding to release a large chunk of their 2018 roster, ahead of the IPL auction next month.
Delhi Capitals traded-in Shikhar Dhawan and have retained 14 players ahead of the auctions and are aiming for a right mix of players for the upcoming season. Dhawan was brought in from Sunrisers Hyderabad with a barter deal that saw Vijay Shankar, Shahbaz Nadeem and Abhishek Sharma moving to the former champions.
