For the umpteenth time now, New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson has proved why he is the most loved cricketer among the current lot.
On Thursday, Williamson celebrated his 29th birthday with Sri Lankan fans during one of their practice matches.
It was during one of the drinks break when the Kiwi skipper decided to join fans, who had brought a cake for him, near the boundary. Not only did he cut the cake, the fans fed him and then reciprocated the gesture, cutting a piece and feeding it to the fan. Before he returned to field of play, Williamson posed for pictures with fans.
Even the ground staff and security staff moved to the area as everybody was seen applauding the moment and gesture from the Sri Lankan fans and Williamson.
As far as the practice match was concerned Sri Lanka Board President’s XI finished with 323 runs for the loss of 6 wickets in 66 overs. The match will be followed by the first Test between Sri Lanka and New Zealand in Galle starting August 14. The second Test will begin on August 22 at Colombo’s P Sara Stadium.
The Kiwis will also play three T20s, all in Kandy, on August 31, September 2 and September 6.
