Yuvraj Singh stood firmly beside his Maratha Arabians teammate Chris Lynn and pulled up the Kolkata Knight Riders management for failing to retain the attacking Australian batsman ahead of the Indian Premier League auction on 19 December.
Describing the decision to be a ‘bad call’, Yuvraj joked that he will message Knight Riders owner Shah Rukh Khan in this regard.
Yuvraj’s comment comes on the back of Lynn scoring a 30-ball 91 against Team Abu Dhabi in the T10 League. In the process, the Australian broke Alex Hales’ record of highest individual score in T10 history.
“I think Chris was outstanding today. Unbelievable hits. He is someone whom I have seen in the IPL. He has given some great starts to Kolkata Knight Riders. It was great to see him bat like that today,” said Yuvraj.
Due to a back spasm, Yuvraj missed Monday’s match. But he is expected to be fit for Maratha Arabians’ next match.
Yuvraj’s T10 career hasn’t started on a promising note. In the two matches he has played till now for the Maratha Arabians in the third edition of Abu Dhabi Premier, the southpaw has only managed to score 20 runs. In the first match against Northern Warriors, he was dismissed for 6 while he scored 14 runs against the Qalanders.
But his side has managed to make a nice comeback in the league. After losing the inaugural match of the season, the Maratha Arabians notched up two back-to-back wins to go at the top of the table in Group B.
“The first game went very fast and slowly we will get used to the tempo. Basically, you must be ready before you go in and be switched on because there is hardly any time,” said Yuvraj.
Yuvraj announced his retirement earlier this in June and won’t be part of the IPL next season. But the former Indian cricketer said that he wanted to play leagues outside India.
“It is a nice opportunity to play with different players. A lot of leagues coming up in the next two to three years, so I am looking forward to play in few leagues,” said Yuvraj.
When asked about whether he has set any sight on coaching, Yuvraj was quick to dismiss any such plans for the next few years. But he was quick to clarify that coaching is surely part of his plans in the longer run.
I will be enjoying playing in different leagues for the next two to three years than hopefully I will get into coaching and practice that side by side,” Yuvraj signed off.
