Mirabai Chanu breaks the Commonwealth Games record in each of her attempts during the snatch round. Chanu, who is competing in the 48 kg category, lifted 80, 84 and 86 kg, breaking her own best of 85 kg, which she set at the World Weightlifting Championships last year.
Mirabai had won a silver in the last Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, having finished behind compatriot Sanjita Chanu, but in the four years since then the 23-year-old Manipuri has made rapid strides to reach a truly world class level.
India has been the dominant force in this 48 kg weight category since women's weightlifting was included in 2002 Manchester Games. The legendary N Kunjarani won two back-to-back golds in this category in 2002 and 2006 Games but India missed out on a gold in 2010 at home.

After failing his first two attempts in the clean and jerk, India's Gururaja lifted 138kg in his third attempt. With a total lift of 249kgs, Gururaja wins the silver medal in weightlifting (56kg). The 25-year-old Gururaja equalled his personal best of 249kg (111+138) to finish second.
