Asian champion Amit Panghal on Friday, 20 September, became the first Indian to enter the finals of the World Men's Boxing Championship. Panghal beat Kazakhstan's Saken Bibbisinov by split decision in the flyweight (48-52kg) semi-final to seal a spot in the gold medal match.
Panghal will face Uzbekistan's Shakhobidin Zoirov, the reigning Olympic champion. Shakhobidin Zoirov defeated Frenchman Billal Bennama in his semifinal showdown.
This year, he already has the Asian Championships gold to his credit after moving to the 52kg category following the dropping of 49kg from the Olympic roster to accommodate more women’s divisions in the 2020 Tokyo Games.
Panghal's rise has been nothing short of spectacular in Indian boxing ever since he claimed a 49kg category bronze in the 2017 Asian Championships.
Amit Panghal’s World Boxing Championships final match will begin at 7:30 PM on Saturday, 21 September.
Amit Panghal’s World Boxing Championships final match will be played in Ekaterinburg, Russia.
The live streaming of the Amit Panghal’s World Boxing Championships final will take place on the Youtube channel of AIBA Boxing.
