  • Shooter Sift Kaur Samra won a gold medal in women's 50m 3 Positions, whilst creating a new world record. Ashi Chouksey won a bronze medal in the same event.

After a triumph over Malaysia in their first game, they have now defeated Macau by a 21-12 margin in their second group stage game. Unfortunately, there will not be any addition to the medals tally from the chess contingent today.

In men's individual chess, Vidit Gujarathi had the chance to secure a bronze medal as he was in fourth place before the final round, but ended up losing his last game against Uzbekistan's Javokhir Sindarov. With 5.5 points, he finishes in fifth position.

Arjun Erigaisi defeated Bangladesh's Enamul Hossain in his last match to end on the sixth position, with 5.5 points to his account as well.

Great news coming from table tennis, as the mixed doubles pair of Sathiyan Gnanasekaran and Manika Batra have advanced to the Round of 16. In their Round of 32 tie, the Indian pair defeated Thailand's Napat Thanmathikom and Suthasini Sawettabut by a 3-1 margin.

In the next round, Sathiyan and Manika will face Singapore's Zhe Yu Clarence Chew and Zeng Jian.

In squash, India and Pakistan are competing in a Pool A game. Having won their first three matches, India have got off to a poor start in this fixture, as Noor Zaman defeated Abhay Singh to give the Pakistani team an early lead.

VICTORY IN WUSHU!

Asian Games 2023 Live Updates, Day 4: 5x5 Basketball Team Starts Campaign on A High

The Indian women's 5x5 basketball team have started their campaign exactly as they would have wanted to with a 66-46 victory over Indonesia in their first group stage encounter. Star player Shireen Vijay Limaye was India's show-stopper, scoring 13 points, while Pushpa Senthil Kumar contributed 12 points.

India will now compete against Mongolia and China in their next two group stage matches.

Asian Games 2023 Live Updates, Day 4: Squash Team Defeated by Pakistan

The news coming from squash is not what Indian fans would have wanted to hear, as the men's team has been defeated by Pakistan.

Noor Zaman gave Pakistan the lead by beating Abhay Singh, albeit Saurav Ghoshal restored parity by getting the better of Muhammad Asim Khan. However, Nasir Iqbal won the last game against Mahesh Mangaonkar to secure a 2-1 triumph for Pakistan.

Asian Games 2023 Live Updates, Day 4: Curtain Call

And with this, we have come to the conclusion of Day 4.

Albeit it ended with a defeat in squash, it has been an exemplary day for India with eight medals added to the tally. Seven of those medals came in shooting – two gold, three silver and two bronze.

The highlight was Sift Kaur Samra, the student of medicine from Punjab, creating a new world record in the women's 50m 3P individual event.

Barring the shooters, there was another medal in sailing, taking India's tally to three on what was the last day for the sport in this competition. Vishnu Saravanan won a bronze medal in Men's Dinghy – ILCA7, courtesy of overall points, after his medal race was cancelled owing to inadequate wind for providing racing conditions.

Elsewhere, Nikhat Zareen continued her flawless run, while Roshibina Devi Naorem qualified for the final of women's 60kg category in Wushu.

She will be competing for a gold medal tomorrow, and so will be many other athletes. Like always, we will be bringing you all the live updates. But for now, call the curtains!
