Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is in Bali to attend the annual G20 Summit, addressed the Indian community in Indonesia on Tuesday, 15 November.

Earlier on his arrival to the country on Monday, he was welcomed by members of the Indian community in Bali.

Here are the highlights of PM Modi's address to the Indian diaspora during a community event.

Highlights of the Address 

  • "After coming to Indonesia and Bali, every Indian gets a different feeling, and a different wretched, and today, I am feeling those vibrations."

  • "As I speak to you in Bali & we sing songs of Indonesian traditions, 1500 km away from here in India's Cuttack, Bali Yatra Mahotsav is going on - Bali Jatra. This Mahotsav celebrates thousands of years old India-Indonesia trade relations...The people who have gathered in Orissa, their bodies are in Orissa, but their minds are in Bali, with all of you."

  • "A lot of Sindhi families who came from India live here in Bali, and they have in textiles, the sports sector and TV industry as well. A lot of people connected to Gujarat are here, taking part in work related to gems, diamonds, mines and even farming."

  • "Engineers, chartered accountants and professionals from India are co-passengers in Indonesia's development."

  • "I remember that I had a lot of fun flying kites with Indonesian President Joko Widodo, and I have anyways have had plenty training flying kites in Gujarat on Sankranti."

  • "When in 2018 Indonesia was wretched with a huge earthquake, India instantly started Operation Samudra Maitri for which I came to Jakarta and said that India and Indonesia are not 90 nautical away from each other, they are 90 nautical miles close to each other."

  • "Since 2014, Indians have opened more than 320 million bank accounts. That means that we have as many bank accounts as the United State's complete population... Since 2014, India has made free houses for over 3 crore underprivileged people, which means that not just every family, every citizen of Australia would have gotten a home to live in...I am just telling you the scale."

  • "Under the Ayushman Bharat Yojana, a number of people were given free medical treatment up-to 5 lakh rupees, which was paid by the government. The number of people availing this scheme is more than the total population of the European Union."

  • "To tackle climate change, India has given the Mission Life challenge to the world, which means altering your lifestyle in a way that benefits the environment and constantly fights climate change."

  • "When you come (to visit India), don't come alone just with your families. Get some Indonesian families with you."

  • "A few months back, on 15th Aug, India celebrated 75 years of independence. Indonesia's independence day comes two days after India's – on 17th August. But Indonesia was fortunate to attain independence two years before India. There is a lot that India can learn from Indonesia"

Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Bali on Monday, 14 November for the annual G20 Summit, to deliberate over pressing global challenges such as reviving global growth, food and energy security, health, environment, and digital transformation.

Over the course of a single day, the PM interacted with several world leaders, including United States President Joe Biden and British PM Rishi Sunak.
