At the Foundation Day event of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), chief Mohan Bhagwat said lynchings are a “western concept” brought to India by “religions from outside”, that is, Christianity and Islam.
He also said that lynchings haven’t happened in India, and that they are a ‘conspiracy’ to defame India and the Sangh.
Meanwhile, as of this podcast is getting recorded, India has witnessed at least 111 cases of lynching and at least 219 mob attacks and hate crimes, and that’s just since 2015.
Despite taking steps to show otherwise, does the RSS continue to hold a bias against Christians and Muslims? What is the RSS’s main focus in the country and what is the reality of lynchings in India?
Today, you’ll hear from Mohan Bhagwat, some leaders of the Opposition, and The Quint’s political editor, Aditya Menon.
Together, we analyse – What does Bhagwat’s statement indicate?
