Kashmir was ensconced in silence for over 70 days. Communication was blocked in the Valley – phone lines shut, Internet services down.

For many, this was the first opportunity to speak to their family back home in months.

Today, we hear voices from the Valley of those who had been longing for a call, a message or just as much as a word from their loved ones.

This is a special edition of The Big Story. At noon on 14 October, 40 lakh postpaid connections became active, while another 30 lakh are yet to be restored. With this move, came a flood of emotional phone calls.
