Marking her political debut ahead of the 2019 Lok Sabha polls, Congress General Secretary in-charge of eastern UP Priyanka Gandhi held a mega roadshow in Lucknow on Monday, 11 February, to a rousing reception by party leaders and workers.

Accompanied by Congress President Rahul Gandhi and in-charge of the western region Jyotiraditya Scindia, a beaming Priyanka waved at the crowd jostling for a glimpse of her.

As her 'rath' rolled on, it was a gold-spot for selfies as enthusiastic party members took vantage positions to click prized photographs for posterity.

When the trio embarked on a roughly 25-km roadshow, through major thoroughfares of the state capital, rose petals were sprinkled and marigold garlands showered at their cavalcade.

A day before her maiden visit to the state as Congress general secretary in-charge of eastern Uttar Pradesh, Priyanka Gandhi said she hopes to start a "new kind of politics" in which everyone will be a stakeholder.

Rahul Gandhi trained guns at PM Modi over the Rafale deal at Priyanka Gandhi’s maiden roadshow in Lucknow with the slogan “chowkidar chor hai”. Addressing the crowd at the party’s Lucknow office, Rahul said the ideology of the RSS and PM Modi needs to be defeated in the country.

The approximately 14-km roadshow started from the Amausi airport and culminated at the Nehru Bhawan office of the Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee.
