The cases of assault and sexual harassment against Harvey Weinstein have been mounting, with over 90 women levelling accusations against the former Hollywood producer. The New York Police Department (NYPD) is currently gathering evidence against Weinstein by corroborating the detailed accounts of the women who have made the allegations.

As per a report in Vanity Fair, the NYPD may now have a solid case against him.

Actor Paz de la Huerta has alleged that Weinstein raped her on two occasions – once in 2006 and another time in 2010. Huerta described her chilling encounter when Weinstein forced himself upon her, in an interview with Vanity Fair.

In the report, Robert Boyce, NYPD's chief of detectives, said that since Huerta gave her report, they have been able to corroborate her statement. Although many women have made allegations, her report of forceful rape might be enough to bring him to justice, he was quoted as saying.

Paz de la Huerta, who began acting and modelling in her teens, went into depression after the encounter and saw her career heading downhill fast. “I was very traumatised,” de la Huerta said to Vanity Fair. “I don’t think I was taking very good care of myself. What happened with Harvey left me scarred for many years. I felt so disgusted by it, with myself... I became a little self-destructive. It was really hard for me to deal, to cope.”

According to a report in LA Times, at least 13 people have filed sexual assault reports with police in Los Angeles, Beverly Hills, New York and London.

In a public statement on Friday, NYPD's chief of detectives, Robert Boyce said: "Huerta put forth a credible and detailed narrative," Boyce said. "We found corroboration... We have an actual case here." If Weinstein were in New York now and the alleged rapes were recent, Boyce said, "we would go right away and make the arrest. No doubt. But we are talking about a 7-year-old case and we have to move forward gathering evidence first.”

About Huerta’s case, he said that she could: “articulate each and every movement of the crime. Where she was. Where they met. Where this happened and what he did."

Harvey Weinstein, through his representative, “unequivocally denies allegations of non-consensual sex”.
