Is Choosing Trump the End of the ‘American Dream’?

After Trump’s win will there be a rise of new America, where democracy will be replaced by dictatorship?

History has taken a new turn. The impossible has become possible. Donald Trump became the United States president. What people did not expect has happened. Hillary Clinton lost. The dream of becoming the first woman president remained unfulfilled. Trump was called a Hitler and a sexual harasser. Many said that he was not fit to become the US President. And now he is the 45th president of the US. "The enemy of migrants" will be sitting in the White House and running the whole world on his fingertips.

Will It Be the End of Democracy in America?

Does it mean that America is moving towards the end of democracy? George Washington, Tom Jefferson, Abraham Lincoln, Roosevelt Fredrik's dreams have come to an end? Will there be a rise of new America, where democracy will be replaced by dictatorship, where will, equality, freedom and fraternity will be buried in the tomb, which will prohibit people from breathing freely, who will only speak for men, who will push out migrants from the US, who will be a terror for Muslims, who will break relations with China, who will not have pity on the poor countries, and might resort to nuclear weapons if terrorism is not controlled. So on and so forth.

The Biggest Alarm Bell

I believe, it is the biggest alarming bell for the US since 1921. The bell is indicating that it's time to change America. The rules which abolished slavery in the US now need to shift.

In the twentieth century, America was called the "paradise of opportunities". A country which welcomes everyone, and even provide them with avenues to showcase their talent cutting across religion or sect. Neither the skin colour nor the the country's flag matters. This is what has been popularly called the "melting pot".

Every dream has an age. One has to wake up after a long sleep. Professor Sudipta Kaviraj said – “Success is the form of suicide. The rules, which has made America a super power, have become old. They need change and improvement. America not only allows practising any religion but also has equal amount of respect for it. But “Jihadi extremism” spread following the breakdown of the communist system, specially after the 9/11 terror attacks. This led to serious debate over religious intolerance in the US to a great extent. George Bush’s attack on Iraq was a symptom of the debate.

Fabricated Excuses for Invasion of Iraq

There was no reason to attack Iraq. But fabricated excuses were given. They all said that Iraq is building weapons of destruction, which would be a great threat to the world. One of the biggest dictators Saddam Hussein was hanged to death by the the US military.

This was not a revenge with dictatorship but with a religion. It was quoted in Samuel Huntington’s thesis “Clash of Civilizations”. Bush was considered world’s villain by the whole world, but the American people elected him as president twice.

It was a new time for America. After Roosevelt, US’s dominance was challenged, but it was weak. It was never realised, but at the beginning of the 21st century, American supremacy was close to coming to an end. It was being extensively discussed. The rapid progress of China also made America insecure.

Obama Did Not Meet Expectations

There were hopes from Barack Obama of taking the US to older heights, which was not achieved. Neither Obama could control "jihadist terrorism, nor he could stop China's growing dominance. Nothing major happened on the economic development front as well. He spent most of his time handling the fragmented system. Americans are not willing to wait for so long.

Hillary Clinton is considered Obama's extension. She is a follower of Obama’s ideology. Clinton not even once separated her ideology from Obama’s during the entire campaign and talked about making the US as successful as it used to be.

America wants change. Because of immigrants there has been a fear of terrorism, and tough competition for jobs. Americans want someone who can curb China’s growing influence, and take up larger issues like economic growth. Hillary’s usual response to these major issues during the campaign did not win American’s trust. Trump gave a radical solution that was different from the typical answers. The history will tell whether he was right or wrong. But people actually appreciated Trump’s rude but necessary remarks.

Trump's Talk Doesn't Match With America's Rules

Trump wants to remove immigrants from the US. He says US companies should employ Americans instead of Chinese and Indians. Due to increasing terrorism, he wants to prevent Muslims from entering the US. These things does not match the rules of the older US.

People made fun of Trump, called him an idiot. But today Trump is the US President. Liberals should think why their arguments were rejected. Is it because their ideology has worn out or have they become extremists? Extremism of any kind is not good.

It Isn’t Good from India’s Perspective

Modi followers can celebrate Trump's win but like American liberals, Trump followers will give India a tough time. Trump's 'America First' policy is not a good news for Indian business. Specially IT industry may receive a big blow due to this policy. Movement of Indian immigrants from India to the US will be greatly affected.

It will reduce employment opportunities for Indians in the US. Although it might change the outlook significantly from terrorism’s perspective. The preference given to Pakistan will augur well for India. At first the path of the US policy could confuse the Indian economy. India will have to explore such opportunities like the US.

Lets leave it to the history to decide what is right and wrong.
