There has been an outrage on social media over Donald Trump’s statement on “preventing Muslim immigration” into the US. A torrent of tweets, blogs and other posts have gone viral.
Trump, reacting to last week’s San Bernardino shooting by two Muslims who the Federal Bureau of Investigation said had been self-radicalised, called for a complete block on Muslims entering the US “until our country’s representatives can figure out what is going on”.
“Almost 3 million Muslims reside in the US and almost all are law abiding citizens,” says Fareed Zakaria, a prominent CNN journalist, in response to the anti-Muslim rhetoric. He adds, “What is most bizarre is to hear this anti-Muslim rhetoric described as brave truth-telling.”
Many Americans, including citizens abroad, are expressing their concern and disbelief using social media with the popular hashtags #DonaldTrump and #DonaldTrumpDoesNotSpeakForMe.
A Florida mayor says he’s banning Donald Trump from his city after the Republican presidential candidate called for the US to stop Muslims from entering the country.
Playing off of Trump’s earlier words, St Petersburg Mayor Rick Kriseman tweeted Monday that he was banning Trump “until we fully understand the dangerous threat posed by all Trumps.” His tweet was liked and retweeted over a thousand times.
Indian politician, Subramanian Swamy is being compared to Donald Trump while Trump and his antics are now being compared to the infamous Adolf Hitler.
Ah, the good old debate of intolderance. India takes a stance.
It really does seem like Hitler never left, doesn’t it?
Then there is this:
In addition to his list of strange statements, Trump had mentioned that Muslims should wear ID badges to set them apart from the rest. This lady’s response went viral in a matter of minutes.
