Robert Mugabe resigned as Zimbabwe's president on Tuesday, a week after the army and his former political allies moved to end four decades of rule by a man once feted as an independence hero who became feared as a despot.
As soon as the news of Mugabe resigning spread, wild celebrations broke out in the parliament as well as on the streets of the capital – Harare. People were seen celebrating in full swing on the streets. Some were even seen holding posters of Zimbabwean army chief Constantino Chiwenga and former vice president Emmerson Mnangagwa.

Around three million Zimbabweans have emigrated from their home country to South Africa in search of work following Zimbabwe’s economic collapse.
