Pakistani transgender rights activist and model Kami Sid has been accused of rape, sexual misconduct and of threatening people.

The thread of accusations started on social media after Facebook user Minahil Baloch put up a post asking people not to “support rapists even if they make it to Cannes 2019”. Baloch added, “Rapists don’t belong to any cis-gender. Rape knows no gender”.

Although no names were taken in Minahil Baloch’s social media post, she later shared screenshots of her conversation with Kami on WhatsApp. Baloch posted on Facebook, the thread of conversations she had with Kami, where Kami appears to be threatening her for apparently defaming her through her initial post on social media.

Kami, meanwhile, was celebrating the success of her short film, Rani, making to Cannes this year.

Similar Allegations on Social Media

After Baloch’s post, a few other people came forward to make similar allegations against the transgender activist. Lawyer Shumaila Hussain Shahani claimed that Kami and her boyfriend have been booked in the case of raping a 14-year old trans minor, who died a few months ago.

Other people on social media have also expressed their solidarity with Baloch and condemned Kami.
