Sikh Musician Racially Profiled at Restaurant in Orlando

Turns out, the ‘suspicious container’ a fellow restaurant goer complained about had bamboo flutes.

Neelamjit Dhillion, a Sikh musician was racially profiled at a restaurant in Orlando, Florida while he was eating a meal, reported Buzzfeed News.

Another customer dining at the restaurant called the police when they spotted a “suspicious container” kept next to Dhillion.

A police officer came in looking apologetic and shook Dhillion’s hand and said to him “I need to have chat with you. Can we have a discreet conversation at your table?”

The officer told him that someone had notified him about a man with a suspicious container, dining at the restaurant. It turned out that the container had his bamboo flutes.

“We always joke that we get randomly selected for security 100 percent of the time,” Dhillon told BuzzFeed News.

If someone just asked a question, and if someone didn’t come to conclusions based on appearances, they might just learn something about people.

Dhillion recently moved to Orlando to work with Disney on their show “Jungle Book Alive” as a performer and music director. Being part of the Sikh community, people get mistaken for Muslims and are labeled as terrorists frequently.
