Margaret Hilda Roberts was born on 13 October 1925 in Grantham, Lincolnshire. She went to Oxford University and became a research chemist. She later retrained to become a barrister in 1954. In 1951, she married Denis Thatcher, a wealthy businessman, with whom she had two children.
Margaret Thatcher, or the ‘Iron Lady’ as she was fondly called, was the first female British Prime Minister and the United Kingdom’s longest-serving PM.
