Dhaka woke up to a horrific sight on the morning of Eid ul-Adha as the streets were flooded with a crimson wave of blood. Intermittent showers meant that the blood from animal sacrifices on Eid mixed with rain, and if you add water-logging – there you have it! A horrifying imagery from Julius Caesar, of streets laden with blood.
A Twitter user, Edward Rees, posted pictures of the city:
The city has designated spaces to carry out animal slaughter, but several people were seen carrying out sacrifices at places that were convenient. Some people said the designated spots were too far from their homes.
Several residents complained that the city’s corporations had failed to keep the drainage system functional and had paid no heed to it before Eid.
Water-logging in the city has been a problem for a while. But who would have imagined waking up to this morbid and disturbing sight?
