  • Afghanistan’s Permanent Representative to the UN Mahmoud Saikal accused elements within the state structure of Pakistan of facilitating terrorist groups. He was speaking about the death of Taliban leader Mullah Akhtar Mansour, who was killed in Pakistan’s Balochistan in an American drone strike.

  • Addressing the UN Security Council on the debate on UN Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) on 21 June, Mahmoud said that Pakistan needed to end “the charade of plausible deniability, duplicity, and blame of Afghan weakness” if they are to succeed in counter-terrorism.

  • Mahmoud said that the drone strike on the Taliban leader in Pakistan implies that he had a fake Pakistani passport and used to frequent Pakistan regularly. he also said that the death of terrorist leaders in safe houses in the country proves that ‘Pakistan has violated the sovereignty of other nations’.

  • Mahmoud called for proper implementation of the counter-terrorism resolutions of the Security Council and implored Pakistan to exercise ‘political will’ and a ‘honest police action’ instead of concentrating on defence deals.
