Nuclear Disaster-hit Fukushima Workers get Rest Area After 4 Years

The Tokyo Electric Power Co., which runs the Fukushima nuclear plant, finally sets up a rest area for its workers.

The Tokyo Electric Power Co., responsible for running the nuclear disaster-hit Fukushima plant, has opened a rest area and canteen for its workers. It has been more than four years since the nuclear plant was hit by a disaster since Chernobyl.

The new rest area has replaced pre-fabricated facilities which were being used by workers since 2011, when multiple meltdowns were triggered by an earthquake and tsunami. This catastrophe also forced more than 160,000 residents to flee from nearby towns.

The rest room will also have the facility of providing food for more than 1000 workers. Per day 3,000 meals would be served. The clean-up workers are given curries, noodles and rice bowls in the large canteen.
